Jesus said in John 8:51, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep My word, he shall never see death.”
Jesus meant exactly what He said. The person who keeps His word shall not see death. Everybody dies; even the Christian, but the Christian won’t see it.
Evidently at the moment life in this world ends we are in eternity immediately, as quickly as the blink of an eye. We shut our eyes at the moment of death, and open them in glory. Death happened and we did not even see it just like Jesus said. In an old hymn book I found these lines:
“I have a home in a fair summer land – It’s beauties I have never seen.
I have a place on an evergreen strand – And there is only a shadow between.
Jesus has promised a home to prepare – Through faith on this promise I lean.
I have a mansion that’s wondrously fair – And there is only a shadow between.
When I have finished my task here below – I will pass through this shadowy screen;
And be with the ransomed forever I know – And there is only a shadow between.
Only a shadow – A shadow between – Only a shadow between.
Just one step to go – And the ways all aglow – For there is only a shadow between.
So remember the promise that Jesus has given, as we eat of the loaf and drink of the cup, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep My word he shall never see death.”
